Our partner is looking for a Mechanical Analysis Engineer (Team Lead) to oversee space debris cleanup programmes and give technical leadership to team members.

As a Mechanical Analysis Engineer (Team Lead), you will oversee the analysis of spacecraft equipment, components, and subsystems, including their structure and capture mechanism. You will ensure that projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards by serving as the technical authority for all spacecraft structures and equipment.

The Mechanical Analysis Engineer (Team Lead) has the following key responsibilities:

Mechanical –

  • Determine and create structural requirements for spacecraft, subsystems, and individual components.
  • Lead hardware study of the spacecraft structure, mechanisms, unit modules, and ground support equipment to ensure they satisfy mission requirements.
  • Collaborate with design leads and engineers to conduct structural analysis of flying hardware and mission support equipment.
  • Work with the AIV team to ensure that mechanical design is easy to manufacture, assemble, integrate, and test.
  • Oversee and assist in defining and carrying out hardware-related activities during spacecraft design, development, AIV phases, and launch campaigns.
  • Manage structural testing for flight, certification, and engineering equipment.
  • Investigate structural nonconformances, provide solutions, identify lessons learned, and create mitigation plans to aid in flying clearance activities.
  • Mentor and help team members improve their knowledge and abilities.

 

Leadership and Management Responsibilities:

  • The Analysis Team’s resource allocation and scheduling, as well as project job assignment.
  • Motivating and leading others entails leading the team, as well as holding regular one-on-one sessions.
  • Developing others involves actively seeking performance improvement, coaching, and annual performance reviews.

 

Key Skills and Experience for the Mechanical Analysis Engineer (Team Lead):

  • Diploma; bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering/science area.
  • Requirements for this position include 5+ years of expertise as a mechanical analysis engineer in the space industry, as well as experience in other high-tech industries including aircraft and motorsport.
  • Highly skilled in Finite Element Analysis with extensive experience using NASTRAN and the HyperWorks software suite (alternative FEA tools would be evaluated).
  • Experience in engineering change processes and the use of a PDM/PLM system.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare mechanical aspects of a plan based on project requirements and deliver on them.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience across a spacecraft’s lifecycle, from design to launch.
  • Experienced in leading and managing a team of engineers.
