JOB SUMMARY

 

Astroscale UK is seeking a competent and experienced Technical Architect to support our quickly expanding and creative firm.

This role is important to making an impact every day by ensuring that the architecture is in place to advance our missions and contribute to making space safer and more sustainable for future generations.

As a Technical Architect, you will reinforce and enhance the Ground Segment Team by applying your abilities to help it evolve in a growing environment.

As a Technical Architect, you will be the Chief Engineer’s right hand, taking on a variety of assigned roles to ensure Astroscale UK delivers on time and with ambition.

 

Responsibilities

Technical decisions for projects.

  • Receives the Engineering Director’s delegation of power in relation to technical decisions when needed.Is the technical reviewer for their field of specialisation across all of the necessary engineering domains?
  • Is the primary referent/first point of contact in case of ground segment technical queries that cannot be handled by the appropriate teams.
  • Defines and documents the design of multi-mission support ground segments, including internal and external interfaces.

Roadmap for GS development

  • In partnership with the ground segment group manager, design the ground segment roadmap, driving for multi-mission support.
  • Document the plan and decisions.
  • Coordinate with projects and finance to make the plan possible.
  • Define internal and external interfaces.
  • Create a credible timeline for implementation.
  • Champion development.

Problem resolution

  • Works with engineering teams to ensure problems are managed from identification to resolution. Help resolve technical difficulties as they emerge.
  • Analyses challenges by breaking them down into smaller, manageable bits.
  • Project and technical development reviewssupervises the technical development and implementation of assigned programmes in the relevant project reviews, and guides teams.

Engineering methods and procedures.

  • In coordination with the Ground segment group manager, maintains quality of standards and procedures across engineering, by creating, mapping, and proposing processes and procedures.
  • Ensures that overall progress is reported to the engineering director.

 

Essential Skills

  • Master’s degree in engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experienced People Manager
  • Experienced in developing and designing ground segments and systems.
  • Experience in spacecraft-level systems architecture positions.
  • At least 10-15+ years of experience in their fields of specialisation.
  • Experience working with businesses to deliver long-term complicated projects and initiatives.
  • Analytically excellent
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to influence at all levels.
  • Resilience, passion for outcomes.
  • Curiosity, problem-solving abilities, challenges the status quo.
  • Principles-based and flawless work ethic

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience with ground system architecture or design, implementation, and verification.
  • Knowledge of the C++ and/or Java programming languages.
  • Knowledge of ECSS and CCSDS.
  • Basic Linux system administration includes shell scripts, make, and so on.
  • Development for Linux platforms.
