About the Role
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced veterinary professional to take on a leadership position as Head Veterinary Surgeon at a well-established small animal practice in Scunthorpe.
This role combines clinical responsibilities with leadership duties, allowing you to influence the strategic direction of the practice while maintaining hands-on involvement in patient care. The position offers flexible working arrangements and a strong emphasis on work–life balance, with no out-of-hours or Sunday commitments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the clinical team, ensuring high standards of veterinary care
Deliver routine medical and surgical services
Provide mentorship and professional support to veterinary and nursing staff
Contribute to business planning and operational decision-making
Maintain compliance with UK veterinary regulations and professional standardsÂ
Ensure workplace practices align with health and safety requirements
Team Structure
You will oversee a collaborative and supportive team consisting of:
- 1 Veterinary Surgeon (undertaking advanced surgical training)
3 Registered Veterinary Nurses
1 Student Veterinary Nurse
1 Veterinary Care Assistant
2 Client Care Advisors
1 Practice Manager

The practice is purpose-built and fully equipped with modern veterinary technology, located within a busy retail environment with strong client demand and accessibility.
Candidate Requirements
- Qualified Veterinary Surgeon with relevant UK registration
Experience in clinical leadership or readiness to step into a leadership role
Strong surgical and medical competencies (surgical interest desirable but not essential)
Ability to work independently when required
Excellent communication and team leadership skills
