About the Opportunity
Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is offering a 12-month opportunity to join its specialist mental health services. This position is available as either a fixed-term appointment or a secondment and will provide an experienced mental health professional with the opportunity to take on a leadership-focused clinical role.
The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across mental health services, primary care and other partner organisations. The role involves developing effective professional relationships, improving communication between services and helping ensure that patients and healthcare professionals can access appropriate specialist advice and support.

Contract Information
– Contract: 12-month fixed term to cover maternity leave
– Appointment options: Fixed term or secondment

Key Responsibilities
The postholder will be expected to:
– Provide proactive clinical leadership within the specialist mental health environment.
– Develop and maintain productive partnerships with key professionals and organisations across the wider healthcare system.
– Strengthen collaboration between individuals, services and multidisciplinary teams.
– Support effective communication and improve access to specialist clinical knowledge and advice.
– Work alongside Primary Care teams to support appropriate assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
– Contribute to initiatives designed to improve public understanding of dementia, including its symptoms, prevalence and prevention.
– Use information gathered from local communities and service users to support service development, redesign and future investment decisions.
– Promote high standards of clinical practice, risk management and professional governance.
– Work collaboratively with patients, families, carers and other healthcare professionals.
Prescribing Requirement
Because the role involves supporting Primary Care colleagues with assessment and treatment, applicants must either already hold Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) status or be able to demonstrate that they can achieve the required prescribing qualification within an agreed period.
Travel Requirements
This is a community-based role and the successful applicant must be able to travel independently throughout the relevant locality.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications and Professional Development
Applicants should have:
– Current professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as an RMN or RNLD.
– A recognised Practice Assessor or Practice Supervisor qualification, or evidence that this is currently being completed.
– Training in clinical supervision and experience providing supervision, or evidence that the required training is in progress.
– A relevant nursing degree or equivalent post-registration education supported by specialist clinical training and continuing professional development.
– Advanced or specialist study at Level 7, such as a postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma or master’s-level qualification.
– Relevant specialist training in areas such as systemic family therapy, CBT, dialectical behaviour therapy, independent prescribing or psychosocial interventions, where applicable to the clinical speciality.
– The ability to obtain an appropriate recognised advanced clinical or therapeutic qualification within the first year of employment, where this is required for the role.
– Clinical experience comparable to postgraduate diploma or master’s level, such as substantial experience working at Band 6 or above within a relevant specialist clinical setting.
– Evidence of appropriate continuing professional development (CPD).
Essential Knowledge
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong knowledge and understanding of:
– Current health and care needs affecting patients within their specialist area at local, regional and national levels.
– The legal requirements and professional responsibilities associated with the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
– Safeguarding principles and their practical application in clinical settings.
– Clinical risk assessment, risk management and safety planning.
– Clinical governance and quality standards.
– Medicines management within a clinical environment.
– Relevant psychological approaches, models of care and treatment appropriate to the specialist service.
Essential Experience
Applicants should have significant professional experience in:
– Supporting patients with complex needs within a relevant specialist clinical setting.
– Working with individuals who may present with behaviours associated with clinical or personal risk.
– Building effective working relationships with service users, their families and carers.
– Working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
– Participating in quality improvement and service development projects.
– Undertaking and managing clinical risk assessments.
– Applying professional judgement to complex clinical situations.
Disclosure and Barring Service
This position is subject to the requirements of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. As a result, the successful applicant will be required to undergo the appropriate Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to establish whether there are any relevant previous criminal convictions.
