Overview of the Role
The ESRC Centre for Digital Futures at Work (Digit) is recruiting a Research Communications & Impact Manager to lead the Centre’s communications, engagement, and impact strategy during its next funding phase.
Digit is a major UK research centre exploring how digital technologies are transforming work, employment, and society. Its research supports policymakers, businesses, trade unions, and public organisations in understanding and responding to these changes.
In this role, you will take responsibility for translating complex academic research into clear, accessible, and influential outputs that drive real-world impact. You will also ensure that Digit’s work reaches the right audiences and informs policy and practice across the UK and internationally.
What You Will Do
- Develop and lead Digit’s overall communications and impact strategy
Manage research dissemination across digital platforms, events, and publications
Strengthen engagement with policymakers, industry partners, and third-sector organisations
Track, evidence, and report on research impact for funders and stakeholders
Organise and deliver high-profile events and engagement activities
Work closely with researchers across multiple universities and partner organisations
Support collaboration across institutions including Sussex, Leeds, Cambridge, Manchester, Monash, and the Institute for Development Studies

Who We Are Looking For
You will be an experienced communications and engagement professional with a strong interest in research and public impact.
Key strengths include:
- Experience in research communications, public engagement, or impact management
Ability to translate complex academic content into clear, engaging messaging
Strong stakeholder management and partnership-building skills
Experience delivering events and engagement activities
Confidence working across academic, policy, and industry environments
Excellent organisational and project management abilities
You should be collaborative, impact-driven, and comfortable working within a fast-moving research environment.
