Role Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a registered mental health professional (Band 6) to join the Teeswide CAMHS Crisis Team, a 24/7 specialist service supporting children and young people experiencing acute mental health distress across the Teesside region.
This role is designed for a clinician who is confident working independently in high-pressure situations and is committed to delivering compassionate, timely, and evidence-based mental health care for individuals up to 18 years of age.
You will act as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for assessing risk, formulating crisis interventions, and supporting young people and their families during periods of significant emotional difficulty.
Service Context
The CAMHS crisis service provides rapid-response mental health assessment and intervention for children and young people experiencing acute psychological distress.

The team operates across a 24-hour rota system, providing urgent support both in community settings and via telephone consultation.
Key Responsibilities
As a CAMHS Crisis Clinician, you will:
- Conduct comprehensive mental health and risk assessments for children and young people in crisis
Develop and implement safety and care plans in collaboration with young people, carers, and professionals
Deliver short-term crisis interventions aimed at stabilising mental health and reducing immediate risk
Provide telephone-based clinical advice and emotional support to families and professionals
Contribute to decisions that promote safe management within community settings wherever possible
Participate in shift coordination and contribute to safe service delivery across a 24/7 rota
You will also play a key role in supporting integrated care pathways in line with national safeguarding and mental health
Working Environment

The role requires strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across agencies to ensure coordinated, child-centred care.
Candidate Requirements
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Registered clinician with relevant UK professional body
Minimum of 18 months post-qualification experience, including completion of preceptorship or competency framework
Strong understanding of child and adolescent mental health and emotional wellbeing
Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team (MDT)
Knowledge of risk assessment, safeguarding, and clinical formulation
Literacy, numeracy, and IT competency (Level 2 or equivalent)
Commitment to continuing professional development
Desirable Experience
- Previous leadership or shift coordination experience
Experience supervising staff or mentoring students
Training in therapeutic approaches (e.g. CBT, family therapy)
Experience delivering parenting interventions or group facilitation
CAMHS-specific academic qualification or additional specialist training
