Role Overview
Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) is looking for a Curriculum and Assessment Officer to support the smooth delivery of assessments across its medical programmes.
This is a hands-on and detail-focused role where you will coordinate key parts of the exam process—from preparing assessment materials to supporting exam delivery and maintaining accurate records. You’ll work closely with academic staff, clinicians, and administrative teams to ensure assessments are fair, well-organised, and aligned with required standards.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Coordinate the preparation and delivery of written medical examinations
Support question collection, formatting, and quality assurance processes
Compile and organise exam papers in line with academic standards
Provide guidance to staff and students on assessment procedures and timelines
Maintain accurate records of assessment data and results
Assist with exam boards and committee processes
Work with colleagues to improve systems and streamline assessment processes
What We’re Looking For
You’ll be someone who is organised, reliable, and comfortable working under pressure, especially during busy exam periods.
Essential skills and experience:
- Strong administrative and organisational abilities
Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills
Confident use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Experience handling data, reports, or assessment processes
Ability to communicate clearly with a range of stakeholders
Understanding of confidentiality and professional standards
Desirable:
- Experience in a university or healthcare education environment
Familiarity with systems such as SITS or PebblePad
Experience supporting exams or academic processes
