Role Overview
An excellent opportunity has opened for a compassionate and motivated individual to join the Mental Health Services for Older People Community Team in Whitby. This role focuses on supporting older adults and their families within community settings, including care and residential homes.
You will become part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, gaining valuable experience while delivering meaningful, person-centred care. Although the role requires a degree of independence, regular supervision and ongoing professional development will be provided to help you grow in your career.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you will work under the guidance of registered healthcare professionals to provide practical and therapeutic support. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting older adults with mental and physical health needs in community settings
Monitoring wellbeing and reporting changes to senior clinical staff
Delivering non-medication-based interventions, both individually and in groups
Assisting patients in setting and achieving personal recovery goals
Working closely with care homes to review and manage residents’ mental health needs
Supporting safe medication monitoring and identifying early health concerns
Carrying out basic clinical procedures such as ECGs or blood sampling (training provided)
Working Environment

The role involves travelling across a large geographical area, so the ability to travel independently is essential.

Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2 (or equivalent)
Care Certificate
Literacy and Numeracy Level 2
Completion of Trust HCA competencies within 6 months
Experience
- Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant (Band 2/3 or equivalent)
Desirable
- Experience working with individuals with mental health needs or learning disabilities
Skills in ECG or venepuncture
Key Skills
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to manage time and prioritise tasks effectively
Capacity to work both independently and within a team
Understanding of equality, diversity, and patient dignity
