The Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and experienced Clinical Specialist to join the Northallerton Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a compassionate and forward-thinking mental health professional to provide clinical leadership within a supportive multidisciplinary CAMHS environment serving children, young people, and families across the Hambleton and Richmondshire area.
About the Team
Northallerton CAMHS is a close-knit and collaborative team made up of professionals from a range of backgrounds including Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychiatry, Psychology, and Social Work.
The service provides specialist assessment and intervention for young people experiencing mental health challenges, including ADHD assessments and broader mental health support.

Role Overview
The Clinical Specialist will provide both clinical expertise and leadership support across the CAMHS service. The successful candidate will work closely with operational and clinical leaders while supporting service development and quality improvement initiatives.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about improving mental health care pathways for children and adolescents while helping shape innovative and responsive CAMHS services.
Main Responsibilities
The successful applicant will:
- Provide specialist clinical leadership within the CAMHS team
Support children, young people, and families through assessment and intervention services
Contribute to service improvement projects and quality initiatives
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary professionals and partner agencies
Support risk assessment, safeguarding, and clinical governance processes
Deliver supervision, mentorship, and guidance to colleagues where appropriate
Promote innovative and evidence-based approaches to mental health care
Candidate Requirements
Applicants must hold professional registration in one of the following disciplines:
- Nursing
Occupational Therapy
Social Work
Applicants should ideally have at least two years of Band 6 experience (or equivalent) within CAMHS or a related mental health setting.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Successful candidates should demonstrate:
- Current professional registration with a recognised UK body such as Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC),Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), or Social Work England
Experience working within multidisciplinary mental health teams
Strong knowledge of safeguarding, risk management, and clinical governance
Experience supervising staff, students, or trainees
Knowledge of mental health legislation including the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
Evidence of continuing professional development and advanced clinical practice
Desirable Skills
- Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) qualification
Advanced therapeutic training such as CBT, DBT, or Systemic Family Therapy
Experience leading projects or service improvement initiatives within CAMHS
