About the Role
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a skilled and compassionate Band 6 Clinical Lead to join Rowan Ward 1, an adult acute mental health inpatient unit.
This is a key leadership role where you will help guide the delivery of high-quality care, supporting patients through admission, treatment, and discharge. You will act as a role model for the team, combining strong clinical decision-making with a genuinely compassionate approach.
 Your Impact
In this role, you will take responsibility for ensuring that care on the ward is:

You will regularly take charge of shifts, supporting both patients and staff in what can often be a fast-paced and demanding environment.
 Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day coordination of clinical care on the ward
Act as Nurse in Charge, providing clear leadership during shifts
Support safe admissions, ongoing treatment, and discharge planning
Promote a recovery-oriented and therapeutic ward environment
Deliver clinical supervision, mentoring, and appraisals for junior staff
Encourage continuous learning and development within the team
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary professionals including doctors, psychologists, and social workers
Maintain high standards in risk management, safeguarding, and documentation
Contribute to audits, service improvement, and governance activities
Working Pattern
24-hour rota including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays
Dedicated time for clinical leadership and management responsibilities
 Essential Requirements
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Mental Health Nursing
Current professional registration (e.g. NMC)
Experience
- Experience working as a registered mental health nurse
Evidence of post-registration training and professional development
Experience providing supervision and support to junior staff
Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively
(Desirable)
- Experience using electronic patient records (e.g. RiO)
Involvement in audits, research, or service improvement
Experience managing change within clinical settings
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of key legislation
Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities
Leadership and decision-making skills in complex environments
Commitment to delivering evidence-based, compassionate care
