About the Role
Applications are invited for an Academic Clinical Lecturer in Endocrinology and Diabetes Mellitus at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, working within the Department of Clinical Neuroscience and the Centre for Dementia Studies. This post is delivered in partnership with University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, where the successful candidate will hold an honorary clinical contract.
This prestigious NIHR-funded lectureship offers an excellent opportunity to develop an independent clinical academic career at the intersection of dementia, ageing, and metabolic health. The role combines high-quality research with clinical training, supporting future leaders in academic medicine.
The post is open to specialty trainees (ST5/ST6) in Endocrinology and Diabetes Mellitus who have completed a PhD or MD and demonstrate strong academic potential.
The role aligns with UK national research and healthcare priorities, including dementia research, clinical academic careers, and integrated care systems
About You
The successful applicant will:
- Undertake clinical duties in Endocrinology and Diabetes Mellitus at the Royal Sussex County Hospital
Hold an honorary NHS contract with University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust
Contribute to academic research within the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, with links to the Centre for Dementia Studies and CEDAR Lab
There is no mandatory on-call commitment, although participation may be agreed depending on training requirements.
You will demonstrate:
- Completion of a PhD or MD in a relevant field
Strong research outputs and academic achievements
Clinical competency aligned with specialty training requirements
Commitment to improving patient care through research
Applicants must meet national clinical training and academic standards
