About Agrifood Futures
Agrifood Futures has been designed as a whole-systems initiative focused on the future of food production, sustainability, and human wellbeing. The programme brings together researchers, industry leaders, policymakers, and communities to tackle some of the most urgent global challenges affecting food systems.
The initiative is built around three major research themes:
- Creating resilient and accessible food systems
Supporting environmentally sustainable farming practices
Advancing healthier food solutions for both people and the planet
The programme is also supported by substantial investment in research infrastructure, including advanced food innovation facilities, sustainable farming technologies, and collaborative platforms focused on nutrition and consumer behaviour.
The Opportunity
The Agrifood Futures Director will provide strategic and operational leadership across the programme’s research areas and innovation hubs. Working closely with senior academic and professional teams, the successful candidate will guide the delivery of major research investments while strengthening partnerships with governments, global organisations, funding bodies, and industry stakeholders.
This role requires a visionary leader capable of driving international collaboration, securing large-scale investment, and positioning the university as a leading voice in future food systems research.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Internationally recognised leadership experience within agrifood research, innovation, public policy, or industry
Strong knowledge of global food systems, sustainability, and climate-related agricultural challenges
Experience leading complex, multidisciplinary programmes with measurable impact
Proven success in building strategic partnerships across academia, government, and industry
The ability to influence decision-making at national and international levels
A track record of securing major research or innovation funding
