is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking pharmacist to join its specialist renal team as a Lead Specialist Clinical Pharmacist for Renal Services.
This is an excellent opportunity for a clinically focused pharmacist who is passionate about improving patient outcomes in renal medicine while helping shape and expand specialist pharmacy services within one of the UK’s largest NHS Trusts.
The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across inpatient, outpatient, haemodialysis, and satellite renal services, delivering expert pharmaceutical care and supporting service innovation throughout the renal directorate.

About the Role
In this specialist position, you will provide advanced clinical pharmacy support to renal patients across a wide range of care settings. You’ll contribute directly to patient safety, medicines optimisation, clinical governance, and prescribing practice while working alongside consultants, specialist nurses, and wider healthcare professionals.
The role includes participation in weekend rotas and offers extensive opportunities for professional development, teaching, leadership, and research involvement.
Key Responsibilities
As the Lead Specialist Clinical Pharmacist, you will:
- Deliver specialist clinical pharmacy services to renal inpatients and outpatients
Participate in consultant-led ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings
Manage medication reviews, reconciliation, and optimisation plans
Support haemodialysis and renal satellite unit pharmacy services
Prescribe independently within your approved scope of practice
Monitor high-risk medicines and pathology results
Lead pharmacist-led medication review clinics
Provide expert guidance on renal prescribing and medicines safety
Develop prescribing guidelines, shared care protocols, and governance initiatives
Contribute to audit, risk management, and quality improvement programmes
Supervise and mentor junior pharmacists and pharmacy trainees
Support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities
Work collaboratively with primary care, homecare, and medicines management teams
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a motivated pharmacist with strong clinical expertise and leadership potential.
Essential Requirements
- Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
Significant post-registration hospital pharmacy experience
Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma or equivalent specialist experience
Independent Prescribing qualification
Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary clinical teams
Desirable Experience
- Renal or nephrology pharmacy experience
Postgraduate MSc or Doctorate qualification
Experience teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level
Membership with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Faculty
