About the Role

The University of Sussex invites applications for an Anatomy Demonstrator position within the Anatomy team at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS).
This role is part of an established and highly regarded anatomy teaching group responsible for delivering education to approximately 3,000 students annually across medicine, allied health disciplines, and surgical training programmes.
As an Anatomy Demonstrator, you will contribute directly to high-quality anatomical education through hands-on teaching, supervision, and learning support in both practical and classroom-based settings.
This position also includes full funding to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (PGCert), providing an excellent opportunity for professional development in academic teaching.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Student Support

  • Deliver and support anatomy teaching sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate learners
  • Supervise students during cadaveric dissection and prosection activities
  • Contribute to living anatomy demonstrations, ultrasound teaching, and revision sessions
  • Support student learning through guidance, feedback, and academic mentoring

Learning Material Development

  • Assist in creating anatomical teaching resources and educational materials
  • Prepare and maintain prosections for teaching purposes
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of anatomy teaching content

Assessment & Engagement

  • Support student assessment activities within anatomy teaching programmes
  • Engage learners using inclusive and effective teaching approaches
  • Participate in broader student support and academic development activities

Candidate Profile

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Medicine or postgraduate qualification in Human Anatomy or related field
  • Strong understanding of human anatomy, particularly in relation to cadaveric material
  • Experience or familiarity with dissection-based anatomical teaching
  • Previous experience teaching at undergraduate level
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of Human Tissue Authority (HTA) guidelines relating to anatomical education

Desirable Experience

  • Prior teaching experience using cadaveric material at undergraduate or postgraduate level
  • Higher education teaching qualification (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Membership of relevant professional or academic bodies
  • Engagement in medical education research or scholarship activities
