Help Transform Mental Health Support Across North Yorkshire
Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a compassionate and motivated Qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) to join its innovative NHS Talking Therapies service based in Whitby.
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified practitioner who is passionate about delivering evidence-based psychological interventions for adults experiencing common mental health difficulties such as anxiety and depression.
The service is recognised for its progressive and patient-centred approach, with specialist pathways supporting perinatal women, vulnerable veterans, older adults, and underserved communities. About the Role
As a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, you will play a vital role in delivering low-intensity NHS Talking Therapies interventions using a range of flexible treatment methods.
Interventions may be delivered through:
- Telephone-based therapy
Face-to-face appointments
Online and digital platforms
Guided self-help programmes
Psychoeducational workshops and group sessions
Computerised cognitive behavioural therapy (cCBT)
The role offers a balance of clinical assessment work and ongoing therapeutic caseload management, allowing practitioners to build strong clinical and communication skills within a supportive multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Conduct assessments for individuals experiencing common mental health problems
Deliver evidence-based low-intensity CBT interventions in line with NICE guidelines
Support recovery through guided self-help and psychoeducation
Manage clinical risk and safeguarding concerns appropriately
Maintain accurate patient records and outcome measures
Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and community services
Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives
Promote patient-centred and recovery-focused care
Candidate Requirements
Essential Qualifications
Qualification from a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited PWP training programme or apprenticeship
Successful completion of apprenticeship end-point assessment (where applicable)
Eligible for or currently working towards BABCP or BPS PWP accreditation
Essential Experience
- Experience working within an NHS Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT) setting
Experience delivering low-intensity psychological interventions
Ability to assess and support individuals with anxiety and depression
Experience managing clinical risk
Strong therapeutic communication skills
Desirable Experience
- Partnership or multidisciplinary team working
Experience working with substance misuse or dual diagnosis presentations
Knowledge of employment-related mental health challenges
Understanding of psychotropic medication used in common mental health conditions
Skills & Competencies
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Excellent verbal, written, and telephone communication skills
Strong organisational and IT abilities
Ability to build therapeutic relationships with service users
Understanding of NICE guidance for Step 2 interventions
Commitment to evidence-based and recovery-focused practice
Ability to work effectively in a target-driven clinical environment
Professional Registration
Applicants must either:
- Hold BABCP or BPS accreditation as a PWP, or
Be actively working towards accreditation within six months of qualification
