Role Overview
The University of Sussex is inviting applications for a fixed-term Assistant Professor in Sociology within the Department of Sociology and Criminology. This position is primarily focused on teaching and student support, providing cover during a period of research leave.
You will take on a key role in delivering engaging teaching, supporting student learning, and contributing to the smooth running of academic programmes. The post is particularly suited to someone with an interest in migration studies and contemporary sociological debates.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead and deliver teaching on two core modules:
Migration and Integration (Year 2)
Migration, Identity and Home (Year 3)
Contribute to teaching across additional Sociology modules
Supervise undergraduate dissertations
Design and mark assessments in line with academic standards
Provide academic guidance and pastoral support to students
Participate in departmental activities and administrative duties
About You
You will be an enthusiastic educator with a strong academic background in Sociology or a closely related field.
Essential requirements:
- A PhD in Sociology (or near completion)
Experience teaching in higher education
Knowledge or research interest in migration, identity, or related areas
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to support diverse student needs and contribute to a collaborative team
