Overview

This is a compelling opportunity for a motivated and forward-thinking Psychiatrist to take on a consultant leadership role within a newly formed healthcare organisation. The position focuses on supporting and guiding the Community Adult Learning Disability Service based on the Isle of Wight.

The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping service delivery, ensuring high standards of patient care, and contributing to the development of innovative community-based support systems. A £30,000 Golden Hello is available for eligible applicants, subject to terms and conditions.

About the Service

The Community Adult Learning Disability Team operates within a multidisciplinary framework, bringing together expertise from:

  • Psychiatry
    Psychology
    Nursing
    Occupational Therapy
    Physiotherapy
    (Upcoming) Art Therapy

The team works collaboratively with individuals who have lived experience, as well as wider healthcare and community partners. Plans are underway to introduce an Intensive Support Team, further strengthening crisis and complex care provision.

Key Responsibilities

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:

  • Provide clinical leadership and ensure clarity around team roles and responsibilities
    Promote a culture of open communication, accountability, and patient safety
    Support effective information sharing within and across services
    Facilitate inclusive team discussions and decision-making
    Oversee coordinated, patient-centred care planning
    Ensure patients and carers know how to access help when needed
    Develop and maintain systems for risk assessment and management

Person Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
    Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent
    Eligibility for Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT)
    CCT in Learning Disability Psychiatry
    Section 12 approval under the Mental Health Act

  • Salary: £109,725 – £145,478 per year
    Contract Type: Permanent
    Working Pattern: Part-time / Flexible options available
