About the Role
This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Registered Staff Nurse to join the Baysdale Respite Service, supporting children and young people with complex learning disabilities, autism, and physical health needs.
Please note:
- This role is not suitable for newly qualified nurses
- Applicants must hold current NMC registration and have completed preceptorship
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
You’ll be working in a 24/7 service, so flexibility to work nights and weekends is essential.

Baysdale provides short-term respite care for children with:
- Profound and multiple learning disabilities
Complex physical health conditions
Behaviours that may challenge
Autism spectrum conditions
The service focuses on enhancing quality of life, independence, and wellbeing, while offering vital support to families and carers.
 Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Deliver high-quality, person-centred nursing care
Monitor and assess both physical and mental health needs
Administer medication safely, including injections where required
Support children with personal care needs
 Assessment & Monitoring
- Carry out ongoing health assessments
Recognise and respond to changes in health or behaviour
Manage clinical risks effectively
 Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams
Liaise with external professionals regarding care and safeguarding concerns
Build strong therapeutic relationships with children and young people
 What We’re Looking For
 Essential Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RNMH or RNLD; RGN where applicable) with current NMC registration
Completion of preceptorship programme
Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)
Willingness to undertake roles such as Practice Assessor and Clinical Supervisor
 Experience & Knowledge
- Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities or mental health needs
Background in person-centred care approaches
Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and with external agencies
You should also have knowledge of:
- Safeguarding principles
Clinical risk assessment and management
Medicines management and safe administration
Relevant legislation such as the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act

Ability to take initiative and demonstrate leadership when needed
