Overview of the Role
This is an exciting 12-month fixed-term/secondment opportunity for an experienced and motivated Clinical Specialist Nurse looking to broaden their expertise and step into a leadership-focused role.
You’ll be joining a highly skilled multidisciplinary team within a specialist inpatient ward supporting individuals with advanced dementia, alongside complex physical and behavioural needs. The role offers a balance of hands-on clinical care, leadership, education, and service development, making it ideal for someone ready to progress their career.
 About the Service
Springwood is a 14-bed specialist ward providing longer-term inpatient care for individuals who require additional support beyond assessment units or community placements.
The team focuses on:
Deeply understanding each individual’s needs, preferences, and strengths
Delivering personalised care and treatment plans
Supporting transitions into appropriate long-term placements
Developing Positive Behaviour Support Plans in partnership with families and carers
Care is delivered in a compassionate, person-centred way that prioritises dignity, quality of life, and meaningful engagement.
 Your Key Responsibilities
 Clinical Leadership
- Provide expert clinical guidance across the ward
Support and supervise staff, promoting high standards of care
Contribute to shared decision-making within the multidisciplinary team
 Specialist Patient Care
- Lead assessment, treatment, and management of patients with advanced dementia and complex needs
Develop and oversee personalised care, behaviour support, and discharge plans
Communicate sensitive information effectively with families, carers, and professionals
 Service Development & Education
- Support continuous improvement through audits, learning from incidents, and quality initiatives
Deliver and develop specialist dementia training to enhance staff skills and confidence
Promote innovative approaches to care and service delivery
 Collaboration & Coordination
- Work closely with the Ward Manager and Practice Development Practitioner
Liaise with external partners including care homes, community services, and safeguarding teams
Help coordinate care across services to ensure safe and timely transitions
 About You
 Essential Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RMN, RNLD, or RGN) with current NMC registration
Practice Assessor/Supervisor qualification (or working towards it)
Training in clinical supervision (or willingness to complete)
Postgraduate qualification (or commitment to achieve within 2 years)
Willingness to undertake further specialist training (e.g. CBT, DBT, Family Therapy, or Non-Medical Prescribing)
 Experience & Knowledge
- Extensive experience working with patients with complex needs and risk behaviours
Strong background in clinical risk assessment and management
Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
Involvement in quality improvement and service development
You’ll also have a solid understanding of:
- Safeguarding practices
Medicines management
Psychological approaches to care
UK legal frameworks such as the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
