About the Role
The University of Reading is inviting applications for a Lecturer in the Archaeology of the Ancient Mediterranean World to join its highly regarded Department of Archaeology.
This is a teaching and research-focused role suited to an academic with expertise in the Bronze Age through to the Roman period. You will contribute to delivering high-quality teaching and advancing research in this field, while also playing a key role in interdisciplinary programmes.
A central part of the role involves contributing to the Ancient History and Archaeology undergraduate degree, delivered collaboratively with the Classics department. You will bring a strong understanding of current archaeological theory, methods, and debates, alongside a commitment to innovative teaching.
 Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and effective teaching in Ancient Mediterranean archaeology
Contribute to interdisciplinary teaching alongside colleagues in Classics and Archaeology
Conduct and publish high-quality, impactful research
Supervise and support undergraduate and postgraduate students
Contribute to curriculum development and academic initiatives
Engage in research funding applications and collaborative projects
 About You
We are looking for a motivated academic who is passionate about both teaching and research.
You should have:
- A PhD (or equivalent experience) in Archaeology or a related discipline
A strong or developing research profile, supported by publications
Experience in teaching, assessment, and/or student supervision
Ability to deliver teaching specifically in Ancient Mediterranean archaeology
Experience or interest in applying for research funding
In addition, you will:
- Work effectively within a collaborative academic environment
Contribute positively to departmental and university activities
Demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills
