About the Role
The University of Reading is looking to appoint a Lecturer in Social Anthropology to join its highly regarded Department of Archaeology. This is a teaching and research role suited to someone who enjoys working across disciplines and contributing to a collaborative academic environment.
The successful candidate will bring expertise in areas such as:
- Anthropology of collections and archives
Museum anthropology
Material culture studies
Ethnographically informed archaeology
You will play a key role in delivering and developing teaching across undergraduate programmes, particularly:
- Archaeology and Anthropology
Museum Studies and Archaeology
Alongside teaching, you will actively contribute to the department’s strong research culture, helping to maintain its international reputation for excellence.
 Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality teaching across core and specialist areas of social anthropology
Contribute to curriculum development and interdisciplinary programmes
Conduct and publish high-quality research
Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students
Engage in grant applications and research funding opportunities
Collaborate with colleagues across Archaeology, Anthropology, and Museum Studies
About You
You will be an enthusiastic and capable academic with a passion for both teaching and research.
Essential criteria include:
- A PhD (or equivalent experience) in Social Anthropology or a related discipline
A developing or established research profile, with evidence of publications
Experience in teaching, assessment, or student supervision
Ability to teach in at least two relevant subject areas within social anthropology
Strong communication and collaboration skills
You should also be comfortable working in an interdisciplinary setting and contributing to a vibrant academic community.
