About the Opportunity

HT Practice is seeking a motivated and adaptable Salaried General Practitioner to join its network of primary care practices in Tameside, Greater Manchester.

This role offers a unique permanent “floater” position, allowing the successful candidate to work primarily from one base practice while occasionally supporting other local surgeries when additional GP cover is needed.

The position is ideal for doctors who wish to develop a varied portfolio career, work within a supportive clinical environment, and gain experience across multiple practices without the responsibilities of practice management.

Practice Network

The role forms part of a collaborative group of GP surgeries including:

  • The Highlands Surgery
  • Medlock Vale Medical Practice
  • King Street Medical Centre
  • West End Medical Centre

Each practice offers a welcoming and supportive working culture focused on safe, patient-centred care and professional development.

Key Features of the Role

Flexible Working

  • Choice of 4, 6 or 8 clinical sessions per week
  • Flexible start date

Clinical Variety

  • Base practice for regular GP duties
  • Occasional support at neighbouring practices to cover leave or short-term staffing gaps

Clinical Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Conduct face-to-face and telephone consultations in line with scheduled clinics.
  • Assess and manage patients presenting with acute and chronic conditions.
  • Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans.

Clinical Administration

  • Review and action blood test results, hospital correspondence and referrals.
  • Process repeat prescriptions and clinical documentation.
  • Maintain accurate electronic records within the practice systems.

Cross-Practice Support

  • Provide temporary clinical cover within the practice network when required.
  • Assist practices during periods of GP absence or increased patient demand.

Professional Contribution

  • Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams including nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and high standards of patient care.

Clinical Environment

The practices within the network support a wide range of clinical interests including:

  • Palliative and end-of-life care
  • Minor surgical procedures

Essential Requirements

Qualifications

  • Primary medical qualification such as MBBS or equivalent
  • Completion of MRCGP training programme or due to complete shortly
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council and licence to practise
  • Inclusion on the NHS England GP Performers List or eligibility to join

Experience & Skills

  • Recent clinical experience within UK General Practice
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Strong communication, organisational and clinical decision-making skills
  • Competence in clinical IT systems such as EMIS and Docman
  • Commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient care

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working across multiple GP practices or networks
  • Special clinical interest such as women’s health, minor surgery, palliative care or medical education
  • Experience in GP training or mentoring environments
  • Additional postgraduate qualifications related to general practice

Compliance and Safeguarding

The role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 exceptions for healthcare roles.

Applicants requiring sponsorship must meet the criteria for the UK Skilled Worker visa.

International candidates may also need to provide criminal record certificates for countries where they have lived for more than 12 months within the past ten years.
