Salary: Grade 7 – £38,249 to £45,413 per annum (pro rata for part-time appointments)

Join the University of Sussex as our PGR Quality and Governance Lead
We’re looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented professional to join the Sussex Researcher School in a key cross-functional role. As we enhance our provision for postgraduate researchers (PGRs), you’ll play a vital part in shaping a consistent, high-quality, and compliant research environment at Sussex.
The Role
In this strategic position, you will lead on quality assurance, policy development, and governance for postgraduate research (PGR) programmes. Collaborating closely with academic schools and professional services, you will ensure regulatory compliance and help maintain the highest standards in research degree provision.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing expert advice and guidance on all aspects of PGR quality assurance and regulatory compliance
- Monitoring adherence to internal and external standards, identifying risks, and driving best practices
- Leading or advising on policy development, programme design, and international (TNE) partnerships
- Managing PGR governance structures and overseeing the university’s portfolio of research degrees
About You
To succeed in this role, you should bring:
- Proven experience in PGR quality assurance, policy, and governance
- Expertise in writing, reviewing, interpreting, and applying institutional and sector policies
- The ability to influence and collaborate across departments without formal authority
- A track record of managing both internal and external stakeholder expectations
- Strong analytical and data management skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly
- Excellent organisational and time-management capabilities to support the PGR governance cycle
You’ll be someone who proactively keeps up to date with sector developments and champions innovation and best practices in postgraduate research education.
