About Us

The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the UK’s leading initiative dedicated to closing the critical knowledge gap in our understanding of the causes of dementia.

At UCL, the De Strooper/Arancibia lab is part of the UK DRI and focuses on the cellular mechanisms that drive neurodegenerative conditions, with a particular emphasis on Alzheimer’s disease, the neuro-immune interface, and single-cell genomics.

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated Senior Research Technician to join our team as part of a major research initiative examining neuron-glia interactions in Alzheimer’s disease.

In this role, you’ll serve as the key liaison between the Francis Crick Institute’s Biological Research Facility and our lab team, coordinating animal studies and research protocols. You’ll play a central role in supporting research aimed at uncovering the cellular processes that contribute to disease progression.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a collaborative, world-class research environment led by a global expert in Alzheimer’s biology. The position is available from August 2025, funded by the UK DRI for an initial period of two years.

For any accessibility needs during the application process or to request adjustments, please contact: ion.hradmin@ucl.ac.uk.
Informal enquiries about the role can be directed to Dr Lorena Arancibia: l.carcamo@ucl.ac.uk.

About You

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • A Personal Licence and hands-on experience with transgenic mouse colonies.
  • Familiarity with animal tracking/project software such as MCMS, PyRAT, or similar.
  • Proficiency in basic rodent handling and administration.
  • Experience working in a research laboratory environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional approach to working with internal and external stakeholders.

This role meets the requirements for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route or Global Talent Visa. We welcome international applicants who require a visa to work in the UK.

What We Offer

Alongside the opportunity to contribute to impactful dementia research, UCL offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • 41 days of annual leave (27 days annual leave + 8 bank holidays + 6 closure days)
