As a member of our fleet team, you will have access to a variety of training and development opportunities, including Class 1 HGV driving training/licensing (if required), Ford/Mercedes/Electric vehicle diagnostics training, forklift training/licensing, IRTEC renewal/upgrades, and emergency/first aid training.

The role
United Utilities is looking for talented professionals with a history in fleet maintenance and a strong desire for technological innovation and personal development. As a Fleet Technician or HGV Mechanic, you will be a key member of a dynamic team, responsible for the maintenance of a wide range of vehicles and equipment. This function is crucial in assuring the operating effectiveness of the company’s extensive asset base, which comprises a wide range of HGVs, vans, and electric vehicles.
In this capacity, you will be responsible for conducting extensive inspections, performing both conventional and intricate repairs, and devising proactive maintenance plans to prevent downtime and extend the fleet’s lifespan. Your quick problem-solving abilities will not only increase productivity, but will also ensure the fleet’s safety and compliance standards.

Fleet Technician opportunities are available at our main sites in Blackburn, Kendal, Trafford (Manchester), and Liverpool. Key Accountabilities
- Streamlined Fleet Maintenance: Ensure that different vehicles are maintained on schedule and at a reasonable cost, hence improving operational efficiency.
- Operator Collaboration: Work closely with operators to provide smooth maintenance and repairs, hence improving fleet performance.
- Lifecycle Management: Skillfully handle vehicle commissioning and decommissioning to ensure fleet preparedness.
- Compliance Mastery: Keep careful records and follow all transportation and safety rules, preserving high standards.
- Mentorship and Flexibility: Help apprentices and adjust to changing job demands while exhibiting leadership and resilience.
Skills and experience.
To be successful with your application, you must demonstrate that you match the following criteria:
- Time serving apprentice with City and Guilds level 3 in HGV maintenance and repair or similar skills, knowledge, and experience
- Ability to develop the necessary skills to obtain a Class 1 HGV driving licence.
- Welding and fabrication skills (MIG).
- Experience with car diagnostic equipment.
