JOB SUMMARY

 

The role

The Lead Level Designer will be in charge of designing intriguing points of interest and levels, with a focus on compelling gameplay locations. They will train and mentor the design team, promoting career development and expanding the team’s capabilities. Hands-on effort is required as needed to set a high-quality standard by example. They will also contribute to strategic decisions, ensuring that the team focuses on the relevant elements, and work with production to efficiently manage and evaluate design projects.

The Team

The Design Team is a multidisciplinary group dedicated to creating compelling player experiences through inspiration, iteration, and implementation. The team is enthusiastic about developing innovative solutions to design issues and is in charge of translating the game vision into specific features, levels, combat, quests, and encounters. The design team works collaboratively with all other disciplines to support features across the entire development lifecycle, ensuring high-quality experiences are delivered on time.

Responsibilities

  • Take control of the design of our gaming universe. Working together with all discipline directors to achieve our shared vision.
  • Collaborate closely with the gameplay teams to develop the metrics required for the low-level design of our environment.
  • Work with art and narrative leadership to create and produce surroundings that are consistent with the mythology and visual goals.
  • Create a specific content development schedule for your team in collaboration with the production team.
  • Assist the technical team in defining and delivering the tools required to achieve the project’s level and world design requirements.
  • Proactively collaborate with the recruitment team to identify any resources required to accomplish the global design goals.
  • Provide line management to the level design team, providing one-on-ones, performance reviews, and regular design team meetings.

Requirements

  • Someone with extensive experience in level design who has shipped at least one high-profile title.
  • A enthusiastic gamer, preferably with an interest in open-world and online games.
  • An experienced leader who will guarantee that the design task is completed on schedule and to quality.
  • You have demonstrated experience delivering high-quality content in your past work.
  • A team member who can build fruitful, long-term relationships across many disciplines.
  • Motivated, adaptable, and approachable. You will promote quality throughout the team.
  • A person with outstanding written and vocal communication skills.

  • Taking over delivery of all world and level design content from the London studio for a high-budget, online title.
  • Following release, we will improve the environment and level design based on feedback from our players.

  • Playing an important part in a AAA team during proof of concept, pre-production, and production.
  • Managing the more junior members of your team to ensure that delivery objectives are consistently met.

Remuneration and benefits
