At UHB, we provide neonatal care to over 10,000 babies across the region. Our Heartlands site features a busy Level 3 unit with 32 cots, including 12 Critical Care and 20 Special Care cots, a Transitional Care unit, and a Neonatal Community Outreach Team. Good Hope offers a Level 1 Special Care Baby Unit with 12 Special Care cots, dedicated to stabilizing sick and preterm infants before transfer within our Neonatal Network. The post holder will be required to work across both sites.

In this role, you will:
- Take charge of clinical shifts, coordinating and organizing care across the unit.
- Foster effective communication with families and internal/external teams.
- Support colleagues, share expertise, and maintain professional attitudes and behaviors.
- Be a visible presence for staff, families, and visitors, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
Shift Times:
- Long Days: 7:30 AM – 8:00 PM
- Night Shifts: 7:30 PM – 8:00 AM

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Act as a role model for junior team members, delivering high standards of nursing practice and promoting Family Integrated Care.
- Deputise for the Senior Sister, supporting leadership and clinical management with a focus on quality and standards.
- Manage the Neonatal service when on shift, ensuring patient flow and capacity are safely managed, while being actively involved in safeguarding and safe discharge.
- Coordinate staff allocation and ensure a safe, competent, and well-balanced skill mix.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) internally and externally.
- Continuously develop professional knowledge and confidence in leadership.

Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Essential: Registered Child Branch Nurse, Adult Nurse, or Midwife on the NMC register.
- Essential: Neonatal Critical Care/Intensive Care qualification.
- Desirable: Healthcare management/leadership qualification.
Experience:
- Essential: Significant post-registration experience in Neonatal critical care, family-integrated care, and mentoring junior staff.
- Desirable: Experience in neonatal life support (NLS), cannulation, and caring for babies on a palliative care pathway.
Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making abilities.
- Ability to manage resources effectively, lead teams, and maintain high standards under pressure.
- Competence in using non-invasive and invasive ventilation equipment and associated technologies.
Additional Criteria:
- Evidence of professional development and continued registration.
- Experience in teaching, mentoring, and leading clinical teams.
- Ability to handle complex and challenging situations with a positive and flexible attitude.
