Role Overview
The University of Reading is seeking a Workforce Data and Management Information (MI) Analyst to join its Human Resources team during an exciting period of transformation in workforce analytics and reporting.
This role sits at the centre of the University’s ambition to improve how workforce data is used to support strategic decision-making, planning, and organisational performance. You will play a key part in developing and maintaining high-quality data tools and dashboards that provide meaningful insight into staff data across the institution.
As part of the HR Directorate, you will work closely with the Workforce Data and MI Manager and colleagues across the University to ensure data is accurate, accessible, and effectively used to support leadership decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Develop and maintain interactive dashboards using tools such as Power BI and Excel
Analyse complex workforce data and produce clear, actionable insights
Support data-driven decision-making across HR and wider university teams
Data Systems & Quality Assurance
- Ensure accuracy, integrity, and consistency of HR and workforce data
Support the development of automated reporting and data solutions
Maintain high standards of data governance and compliance
Statutory Reporting
- Lead and coordinate preparation of HESA staff returns and other statutory datasets
Ensure timely and accurate submission of workforce-related data to regulatory bodies
Support compliance with national reporting frameworks such as REF and TEF
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work collaboratively with HR colleagues and academic departments
Translate technical data findings into clear, accessible insights for non-technical audiences
Support workforce planning and institutional reporting processes
About You
You are an analytical and detail-oriented professional with experience working with workforce or organisational data in a complex environment.
You will bring:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience using tools such as Power BI, Excel, or similar data platforms
Knowledge of HR or workforce data structures and reporting processes
Experience handling large datasets and ensuring data accuracy and compliance
Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain insights clearly
Experience working within higher education or similar regulated environments
Familiarity with UK higher education reporting frameworks (such as HESA, REF, or TEF) is highly desirable.
