Role Overview
The University of Reading is inviting applications for a Professor of Neuroscience within the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences. This is a senior academic appointment focused on leading an internationally recognised research programme in human neuroscience, with a strong emphasis on MRI-based methods.
The role is closely linked to the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience and Neurodynamics (CINN), which provides advanced multimodal imaging and analytical infrastructure. The successful candidate will contribute to strengthening the University’s global reputation in brain imaging and neurodynamic research.
The position is particularly suited to researchers working at the intersection of brain imaging, computational neuroscience, and brain–body interaction.

Research Leadership Responsibilities
The appointed Professor will be expected to:
- Lead a high-impact, internationally recognised research programme in human neuroscience
Use MRI and related neuroimaging technologies to advance scientific understanding
Develop innovative imaging and analysis methodologies
Build and sustain major externally funded research projects
Contribute to interdisciplinary research across neuroscience, psychology, and clinical sciences
Enhance the research profile of CINN through collaboration and leadership
UK research funding systems
Teaching & Academic Contribution
In addition to research leadership, the role includes contribution to academic teaching and student development:
- Deliver research-led teaching at undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate taught (PGT) levels
Supervise postgraduate and doctoral researchers
Contribute to curriculum development in neuroscience and related disciplines
Support high-quality student learning outcomes and experience
Candidate Profile
Essential Requirements
- PhD in Neuroscience, Psychology, or a closely related field
International reputation in MRI-based human neuroscience research
Proven track record of securing substantial research funding
Strong publication record in high-impact scientific journals
Evidence of academic leadership at a senior level
Experience delivering high-quality research-led teaching
Desirable Focus Areas
- Brain–body interaction research
Development of novel MRI or neuroimaging methods
Computational or multimodal neuroscience approaches
Interdisciplinary research collaboration
