As a Ward Host, you’ll be part of our hospital catering team, delivering meals and refreshments directly to patients on the wards. Your warm, approachable manner and attention to detail will help ensure every patient receives the right food in a comfortable and respectful way.
This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working in a people-focused environment and wants to contribute to a positive hospital experience for patients.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Prepare and serve meals and drinks to patients in accordance with their dietary needs and preferences.
Provide a friendly, compassionate service to patients at mealtimes.
Ensure food is delivered safely, hygienically, and on time.
Maintain a clean and orderly food service area, following hygiene and safety protocols.
Accurately document food service tasks and report relevant information.
Work closely with nursing staff and kitchen teams to support patient nutrition.
Manage your own workload and respond flexibly to changing service needs.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
A positive attitude and commitment to excellent service.
Friendly and approachable with good communication skills.
Basic experience in a catering or customer service role.
Knowledge of food hygiene and safety practices (Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification required).
Good basic education – ability to pass a literacy and numeracy assessment.
Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
Good time management and the ability to follow instructions.
Willingness to work flexibly, including weekends and variable shifts.
Desirable:
Experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting.
Understanding of infection prevention and COSHH procedures.
Awareness of confidentiality, equality, and diversity in a healthcare environment.
Basic IT skills.

Additional Requirements
This position requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as part of pre-employment screening.
Flexibility is required to work on a 7-day rota, including weekends and public holidays.
