Role Overview
This is a specialist opportunity to join an established Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) team supporting individuals aged 14–65 experiencing their first episode of psychosis.
As a Senior Practitioner, you will manage a defined caseload and deliver psychologically informed care while working within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team. The service covers a wide geographical area across York and surrounding regions, so the ability to travel independently is essential.
The role is well suited to a mental health nurse, occupational therapist, or social worker who wants to deepen their expertise in early psychosis and recovery-focused care.
What You’ll Be Doing
Clinical Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload (typically up to 20 service users)
Deliver care planning, safety planning, and tailored interventions
Provide psychologically informed support, including work with families and carers
Carry out specialist assessments for first episode psychosis
Apply key legal frameworks in practice
Team & Duty Work
- Contribute to triage and duty systems within the team
Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, CBT therapists, and occupational therapists
Support multidisciplinary decision-making and care planning
Professional Development & Support
- Take part in regular clinical, managerial, and caseload supervision
Access structured training in early intervention and psychological approaches
Engage in reflective practice sessions, including specialist family therapy input
Participate in appraisal and ongoing professional development
About the Service
The Early Intervention in Psychosis team provides intensive, recovery-focused support across York, Selby, Tadcaster, Helmsley, and nearby areas. The service aims to intervene early, reduce long-term impact, and help individuals regain independence and quality of life.

What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications
- Professional registration in a relevant field (e.g., nursing, occupational therapy, or social work)
Evidence of ongoing professional development
Minimum 18 months post-qualification experience (including preceptorship completion)
Mentorship or teaching qualification (or willingness to achieve)
Competency in literacy, numeracy, and IT
Experience
- Working with individuals experiencing mental ill health
Collaboration with families, carers, and partner services
Delivering supervision or supporting students
Experience within multidisciplinary teams
Participation in quality improvement work
Knowledge & Skills
Strong understanding of evidence-based mental health practice
Knowledge of Care Programme Approach (CPA)
Skills in risk assessment and clinical decision-making
- Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
Awareness of governance, audit, and service improvement processes
Understanding of psychological models of care
Additional Requirements
- This role requires a DBS check
