Role Overview
This is a challenging and highly rewarding opportunity for a registered mental health professional to join a dedicated CAMHS Crisis Team supporting children and young people across Teesside.
You will work within a fast-paced 24-hour service, providing urgent mental health assessments and interventions for individuals up to 18 years old who are experiencing acute emotional distress or crisis situations.
The role requires confidence in autonomous decision-making, strong clinical judgement, and the ability to remain calm and supportive during high-pressure situations.
Key Responsibilities
Crisis Assessment & Clinical Decision-Making
- Carry out urgent mental health and risk assessments for children and young people in crisis
Develop clear, safe, and practical care and safety plans with young people and carers
Provide short-term interventions aimed at stabilising mental state and reducing risk
Telephone & Remote Support
- Offer telephone-based advice and support to young people, families, and professionals
Provide guidance on managing emotional distress and crisis situations
Ensure timely escalation when required
Risk Management & Safeguarding
- Undertake detailed risk assessments and ongoing monitoring
Work in line with safeguarding procedures and national guidance
Ensure safety planning is child-centred and recovery-focused
Multidisciplinary & Partnership Working
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary CAMHS crisis team
Liaise with schools, social care, emergency services, and other agencies
Contribute to coordinated care across services for children and families
Shift Coordination & Leadership
- Participate in a 24/7 rota including day, evening, and night shifts
Support coordination of shift activities and team workflow
Contribute to safe and effective service delivery during busy periods

What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications
- Current registration with a recognised professional body (e.g. nursing, social work, or allied health)
Evidence of ongoing professional development
Minimum 18 months post-qualification experience (including completed preceptorship)
Competency in literacy, numeracy, and IT skills
Postgraduate qualification (or working towards it within agreed timeframe)
Experience
- Working with children, young people, and families in mental health settings
Experience in multidisciplinary team environments
Ability to provide clinical supervision where appropriate
Strong background in risk assessment and crisis management
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of child and adolescent mental health needs
Knowledge of safeguarding and legal frameworks
Ability to assess and manage clinical risk effectively
Awareness of emotional wellbeing and psychological support approaches
Additional Requirements
- This role requires a DBS check
Overseas applicants must provide a criminal record certificate
