Role Overview

Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS FT is seeking a dedicated Housekeeper to join the teams supporting our Antenatal and Postnatal Wards. This role is vital in ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

You will work closely with ward managers and clinical teams to coordinate non-clinical services including cleaning, catering, stock maintenance, and equipment management, contributing to the smooth operation of the wards and enhancing patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • The role involves a range of ward support duties, including:

Cleaning & Safety:

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in ward areas.
  • Ensure all infection prevention and control procedures are followed.

Catering & Stock:

  • Assist with food service and meal delivery.
  • Maintain and manage ward supplies, equipment, and stock levels.

Patient & Visitor Support:

  • Chaperone and transport patients safely within the hospital.
  • Provide a welcoming and helpful presence to visitors.
  • Administrative & Communication Duties:
  • Assist with clerical tasks as required by ward teams.
  • Report faults, incidents, and maintenance requirements.
  • Maintain clear, polite, and effective communication with patients, staff, and visitors.

Person Specification

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Essential: Clear understanding of housekeeping duties and role responsibilities
  • Desirable: Experience in professional cleaning, catering, or portering; familiarity with IT systems such as Teletracking or Datix

Qualifications & Training:

  • Essential: Basic numeracy and literacy skills
  • Desirable: Food hygiene certificate; knowledge of safe moving and handling practices
