About the Role

The University of Sussex invites applications for a Research Fellow to join an MRC-funded transdisciplinary hub focused on decarbonising healthcare commissioning and delivery. The position will contribute to Sub-Theme 4: Digital and Remote Care Pathways, led by Professor Dimitra Petrakaki (University of Sussex Business School), within a research programme directed by Professor Mahmood Bhutta (Brighton and Sussex Medical School).

The successful candidate will undertake research aimed at identifying and evaluating sustainable innovations in digital healthcare pathways, contributing to evidence-based strategies for greener healthcare systems.

About You

Applicants should hold (or be close to completing) a PhD in a relevant field such as digital health, health informatics, healthcare management, or sustainability in healthcare. Equivalent experience in research on digital and remote healthcare pathways will also be considered.

You will be able to:

  • Work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
  • Manage your own research activities and timelines.
  • Engage in policy influence and advocacy, translating research insights into real-world impact.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and project management skills are essential.

About the Faculty

You will be based in the University of Sussex Business School, an interdisciplinary and research-driven faculty committed to innovation, sustainability, and responsible business practices. The School comprises five departments — Accounting and Finance, Strategy and Marketing, Management, Economics, and the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) — all focused on producing research that informs policy and drives meaningful change.

This role also links closely with the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS), which holds a Gold Athena Swan Award for its commitment to gender equality and inclusion.
