Job Description
About BirdLife ECA
BirdLife Europe and Central Asia (ECA) is one of six regional Secretariats that make up BirdLife International, the world’s leading authority on bird species and their conservation. Based in Brussels, BirdLife ECA supports a partnership of organisations across 47 countries — including all EU Member States — working together to protect nature, restore ecosystems, and promote sustainable biodiversity policies.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Nature Restoration Project Manager to lead the delivery of key restoration projects across Europe and Central Asia.
This is an exciting opportunity to manage high-impact conservation projects, drive fundraising efforts, and help shape BirdLife’s regional nature restoration agenda. The role involves overseeing all aspects of project management — from planning and implementation to reporting and stakeholder engagement — while identifying new funding opportunities to sustain and expand restoration work.
You will work closely with BirdLife Partners, the ECA team, and technical experts to ensure that restoration activities are impactful, scientifically robust, and aligned with the BirdLife Partnership Strategy and the Regional Implementation Plan for Europe and Central Asia.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Management
- Lead and oversee the delivery of key nature restoration projects from planning to completion.
- Manage project budgets, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
- Identify and mitigate project risks while maintaining high standards of quality and accountability.
- Integrate best-practice restoration methodologies across all project activities.
- Lead the strategic continuation of the RENATE (Restore Nature in the East) project, securing follow-on funding and aligning with BirdLife’s regional strategy.
- Fundraising and Donor Relations
- Develop and lead the fundraising strategy for restoration projects in the Europe and Central Asia region.
- Identify suitable donors, funding mechanisms, and partnerships that align with BirdLife’s restoration priorities.
- Write and coordinate high-quality project proposals, concept notes, and budgets in collaboration with Partners and technical teams.
- Cultivate strong relationships with institutional donors, governments, corporations, and philanthropic foundations.
- Facilitate connections between BirdLife Partners and donors to foster sustainable collaborations.
- Collaboration and Strategic Development
- Contribute to the Nature Restoration Working Group, ensuring coordination between fundraising, project delivery, and strategic objectives.
- Strengthen synergies between restoration projects and other BirdLife ECA programmes to maximise overall conservation impact.
- Promote BirdLife’s restoration work externally to enhance visibility and influence.
