Job Description

Summary

Dowty Propellers, part of GE Aerospace, is seeking a Material & Process (M&P) Engineer specializing in metals and metallic components to join our team at our advanced manufacturing facility in Brockworth.

You will provide technical expertise in the selection, testing, analysis, and performance evaluation of metallic materials and related processes. Working across production, design, and quality teams, you will ensure all materials and treatments meet engineering, safety, and regulatory standards. You’ll also support supplier problem-solving to maintain uninterrupted production and ensure on-time delivery of our projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform metallurgical investigations, including microstructural analysis, hardness testing, and failure/root cause analysis.
  • Evaluate material properties to confirm compliance with ASTM, AMS, ISO, and other industry standards.
  • Support development and qualification of new materials, coatings, and heat treatment processes.
  • Provide expert advice on material selection, corrosion prevention, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Produce detailed technical and metallurgical reports, presenting findings to engineering and quality teams.
  • Lead or support root cause analysis for material- or process-related non-conformances.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical challenges and enhance product reliability.
  • Stay informed on advancements in materials science, processing technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure all metallurgical work aligns with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BEng/BSc) in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline (with metallurgy knowledge).
  • Industrial experience in metallurgical engineering, preferably within aerospace or manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, heat treatment, and failure mechanisms.
  • Skilled in metallographic preparation, microscopy, and analytical techniques (e.g., SEM, EDS, XRF).
  • Familiarity with AMS, ASTM, ISO, and NADCAP standards.
  • Proficient in technical report writing and interpretation of engineering drawings/specifications.
  • Experienced in problem-solving and root cause analysis (e.g., 8D, FMEA).
