About the Role
We are looking for dedicated and compassionate Residential Support Workers to join our team at a therapeutic children’s home in Canterbury.
Our home supports children and young people aged 8–17 who present with emotional, behavioural, and complex needs.
You’ll play a key role in providing a safe, nurturing, and trauma-informed environment that promotes emotional stability, education, and personal growth. Every day, you’ll help young people build the confidence and life skills they need to move towards independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a positive role model, supporting each child’s emotional, educational, and social development.
- Support young people with daily routines, personal care, and life skills, encouraging participation in community and recreational activities.
- Implement individual care, behavioural, and therapeutic plans to promote consistency and emotional safety.
- Encourage and facilitate education and learning, including homework and alternative learning pathways.
- Serve as a key worker, attending reviews and meetings with professionals such as social workers and teachers.
- Ensure safeguarding and risk management are prioritised at all times, in line with organisational policies and legislation.
- Accurately record and report information, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with data protection standards.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision sessions, and ongoing training.
- Work a flexible rota, including evening, night, weekend, and sleep-in shifts, as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications:
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent qualification).
Experience:
- Previous experience working with children or young people who have emotional, behavioural, or complex needs.
- Experience within a therapeutic or multidisciplinary environment is desirable.
Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance, including:
- Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015
- Children Act 1989
- Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023
- Data Protection Act 2018
- Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly and effectively.
- Empathetic, resilient, and patient approach.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Competent IT and record-keeping skills.
- Full UK driving licence required.
