Job Description
About the Role
The University of Sussex is seeking a creative and dynamic Senior Communications, Marketing and Audience Development Officer to join its newly established Division of Library, Culture and Heritage.
In this exciting role, you will develop and deliver impactful marketing and communications strategies that raise the Division’s profile across local, national, and international audiences. You will play a key role in promoting the Division’s activities — particularly public programmes and campus events at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA).
Your responsibilities will include leading on digital communications, managing the Division’s online and social media presence, and coordinating collaborations and agreements with external partners. You will also build and nurture relationships across the University and with cultural organisations, helping to tell powerful stories about our people, programmes, and creative work.
The Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA) is an interdisciplinary arts hub connecting the University with regional, national, and international arts communities. ACCA presents a vibrant seasonal programme featuring performance, dance, live art, film, music, debate, and digital practice. Its work is guided by the values of Sir Richard Attenborough — human rights, social justice, creative education, and access to the arts for all.
About You
You are a skilled and motivated communications and marketing professional with a genuine passion for arts, culture, and heritage.
You bring:
- Proven experience in marketing and communications within the arts or cultural sector.
- Strong knowledge of a range of art forms and experience working with artists, producers, and creative professionals.
- Excellent copywriting and editing skills, with an eye for compelling storytelling.
- Experience directing or managing photography and film projects.
- A collaborative, proactive approach and enthusiasm for connecting diverse audiences with the arts.
- An understanding of the arts and culture landscape in Sussex would be advantageous but is not essential.
About the Division
- The Library, Culture & Heritage Division was established in 2024 and brings together:
- The University of Sussex Library,
- The Keep archive service (in partnership with East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council), and
- The Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts.
- The Division is developing a new strategic plan, making this an exciting time to join and help shape its direction.
