About the Role
We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Teaching) in Financing Net Zero and Healthy Buildings to join the Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering and the Energy Institute.
This post plays a key role in advancing teaching in sustainable finance, healthy building design, and the transition to net-zero carbon within the built environment. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and delivery of high-quality teaching and learning experiences that prepare students to address the complex financial, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable building design and operation.
This permanent position is available to start from 1 November 2025, subject to recruitment timelines.

About You
You are an educator and researcher with strong expertise in finance, ideally applied to sustainability, energy, or the built environment. You are passionate about teaching and committed to equipping the next generation of professionals to deliver a sustainable, net-zero future.
Your work demonstrates an ability to integrate financial theory with real-world applications in areas such as building design, retrofit, and development. You bring an understanding of economic instruments, funding mechanisms, and investment strategies that enable the transition to low-carbon and healthy buildings.
Key Attributes and Responsibilities
- Design and deliver inclusive, engaging, and research-informed teaching in sustainable finance and healthy building design.
- Teach students to evaluate the financial and health impacts of building design decisions, using cost-benefit and health economics approaches.
- Integrate big data analysis and evidence-based evaluation to link building performance with well-being outcomes and broader societal benefits.
- Develop new modules focused on financing and policy instruments that drive the net-zero transition.
- Contribute to programmes such as the BSc/MEng Sustainable Built Environments, Energy and Resources, and support interdisciplinary teaching across BSEER.
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to enhance the curriculum and contribute to wider departmental initiatives.
Essential Requirements
- A PhD (or equivalent qualification/experience) in a relevant discipline, such as finance, economics, sustainability, energy systems, or the built environment.
- Proven ability to design, deliver, and assess high-quality teaching.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
- Commitment to inclusive education and supporting a diverse student body.
- Willingness to engage with interdisciplinary research and collaborate with partners across academia, industry, and policy.
