Job Description

About the Role

Are you looking for a veterinary role that offers more than “just another job”?
At Hemsworth Vets for Pets, we’ll help you build a career shaped around your ambitions—whether that’s progressing into a senior role, achieving a certificate, or developing a specialist clinical interest.

We’re offering an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly, supportive team in a practice where your ideas matter, your wellbeing comes first, and your growth is always encouraged.

About Us

Our independent-style practice is truly unique—housed in a converted fire station, providing a bright, spacious, and modern environment equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical facilities.

Over the years, we’ve built a loyal and supportive client base, giving us the foundation to continue growing. You’ll work alongside a passionate, collaborative team that strives to deliver gold-standard care and make a real difference to pets and their families across the community.

Location

Hemsworth is a lively market town in West Yorkshire, ideally situated with excellent transport connections.
We’re just a short walk from the bus station (serving Barnsley, Wakefield, Pontefract, and Doncaster), and close to the M1 and A1, offering easy access to Leeds, Sheffield, and Manchester.

The area also offers plenty to enjoy outside work—from scenic walks in the Yorkshire countryside and days out at Hemsworth Water Park to the historic Nostell Priory and nearby vibrant city nightlife.

The Role

We’re flexible and open to shaping the role around you:

Full-time: 40 hours per week

Part-time: Minimum 24 hours per week

Flexible scheduling to support your lifestyle and commitments

You’ll work shared weekends on a fair rota, with no out-of-hours (OOH), allowing you to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

What We’re Looking For

Small animal experience within general practice

Confidence handling sole charge when required

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

A collaborative, compassionate approach to veterinary care

If you have ambitions for further development, we’ll fully support you—whether that means funding a certificate qualification, exploring a clinical specialism, or introducing new services within the practice.

What We Offer

Competitive salary: Up to £80,000 DOE

Welcome/Relocation bonus: £5,000

Fully flexible working patterns

Generous CPD allowance with full certificate support

Paid professional memberships: RCVS, VDS, plus one of your choice

Pension scheme and private healthcare

Exclusive discounts: Up to 30% off Pets at Home and The Groom Room

Excellent career progression across a nationwide veterinary network

Relocation packages (UK or overseas)

Visa sponsorship available (A+ rated sponsor)
