About the role
We are looking for warm, reliable and motivated people to join our Hotel Services team as a Porter/Housekeeper. This role plays a vital part in creating a clean, safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff.
You will support people who are receiving care for mental health conditions or learning disabilities. Compassion, respect and professionalism are essential, as every interaction contributes to a positive recovery experience.
What you will do
As part of a supportive, multi-disciplinary team, you will:
- Deliver high standards of cleaning across patient areas, offices and shared spaces
- Support catering and food service activities where required
- Carry out portering duties to help services run smoothly
- Maintain hygiene, safety and infection control standards at all times
- Use cleaning chemicals, equipment and machinery safely and correctly
- Interact with patients, carers and colleagues in a calm, respectful and empathetic way
- Promote dignity, equality and positive attitudes towards mental health and learning disabilities
- Contribute ideas and take part in quality improvement and continuous improvement activities
Working pattern
- Based at Roseberry Park Hospital
- Shifts worked between 6:00am and 6:00pm
- May include weekends and bank holidays
- Flexibility is essential, including the ability to work at short notice

Essential requirements
Qualifications
- Literacy and numeracy at Level 2
- ITQ Level 2
- Food Hygiene Level 2 (or willingness to complete within 12 months)
Experience
- Practical experience of general cleaning duties
- Experience using cleaning materials, chemicals and equipment
- Experience working or volunteering in a mental health or learning disability setting
- Experience of portering duties
Knowledge and skills
- Understanding of Health & Safety and COSHH regulations
- Ability to work to cleaning standards and follow protocols
- Strong attention to detail and pride in your work
- Safe use of motorised cleaning equipment and kitchen equipment
- Effective communication and time-management skills
- Ability to prioritise tasks and work independently when needed
Desirable experience and qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in Housekeeping or a related subject
- Experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment
- Catering or food service experience
Pre-employment checks
- This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975
- You must have the Right to Work in the UK
- This role does not meet the criteria for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship
Induction and support
Successful candidates will complete a 5-day induction programme, with location confirmed before the start date. Ongoing training and development will be provided to help you succeed in the role.
