Hampshire & Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust is inviting applications from ambitious and compassionate Consultant Psychiatrists in Learning Disability to play a key leadership role within the Community Adult Learning Disability Service on the Isle of Wight.
This is an exciting time to join a newly established NHS Trust, offering the chance to shape services, influence strategic development, and deliver high-quality care to adults with learning disabilities within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.
To recognise the importance of this role, the Trust is offering a £30,000 Golden Hello (subject to eligibility criteria), supporting you as you take this next step in your consultant career.
About the Service
The Community Adult Learning Disability Team is a well-established, fully multidisciplinary service, bringing together expertise in:
- Psychiatry
- Psychology
- Nursing
- Occupational Therapy
- Physiotherapy
- Art Therapy (new role in development)
The team works closely with Experts by Experience, partner organisations, and wider system services across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Planned investment will soon support the development of an Intensive Support Team, further strengthening crisis prevention and community-based care.
Your Role
As Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide clinical leadership, strategic oversight, and specialist expertise, ensuring safe, coordinated, and person-centred care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing senior medical leadership within the multidisciplinary team
- Ensuring clarity around professional roles, responsibilities, and accountability
- Promoting high standards of patient safety, governance, and risk management
- Supporting effective communication across services and partner organisations
- Coordinating complex care pathways, particularly where care is shared between teams
- Encouraging collaborative decision-making and reflective clinical practice
- Supporting systems for identifying, managing, and learning from clinical risk
- You will play a vital role in shaping a positive team culture and ensuring that service users and carers know who to contact and how their care is managed.
About You
You will be a committed consultant with a strong interest in community-based learning disability psychiatry and service development.
Essential qualifications and registration
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
- MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
- CCT in Learning Disability Psychiatry
- Eligible for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (or within 12 months at interview)
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
