Job Description
About the role
Are you a highly skilled Specialist MSK Podiatrist or Physiotherapist who thrives on clinical challenge and wants to make a real difference for people living with complex foot and ankle conditions?
This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established Specialist Musculoskeletal Service, supporting patients whose needs go beyond primary care. You will work with individuals experiencing persistent or complex MSK pain, many of whom have not responded to earlier interventions.
Using your advanced clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills, you will help guide patients toward the most appropriate evidence-based treatment, empowering them to make informed decisions about their care.
You’ll work autonomously while also being part of a highly experienced multidisciplinary team, including Clinical Leads and MSK Consultants, who actively shape and develop the service.
How the service works
Referrals come from:
- MSK physiotherapyhiotherapy and Podiatry teams
- First Contact Practitioners (FCPs)
- GPs
- Self-referrals
The service focuses on complex musculoskeletal presentations, requiring advanced assessment, interpretation of investigations, and shared decision-making around management options — including injection therapy where appropriate.
What you’ll be doing
As a senior clinician, you will:
- Take professional and legal responsibility for your own caseload and clinical decisions
- Carry out specialist assessments for patients with complex MSK conditions
- Use advanced clinical reasoning to determine appropriate investigations and treatments
- Deliver and evaluate high-quality, evidence-based care
- Provide expert clinical advice to GPs, MSK colleagues, patients, families and employers
- Support and mentor junior colleagues within the MSK service
- Contribute to service standards, clinical pathways and specialist referral processes
- Maintain clear, accurate clinical records in line with Trust and national guidance
- Lead or contribute to quality improvement, audit and service development projects
- Support NHS priorities such as shared decision-making and patient-centred care, aligned with the NHS Long Term Plan
Professional development & support
- Your growth matters here. You will benefit from:
- A structured competency framework
- Regular peer support and specialist workshops
- Ongoing mentorship from senior clinicians
- Opportunities to engage in research, audit and quality improvement
- Support to maintain and evidence continuous professional development (CPD)
