About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Paediatric Neurodevelopmental Clinical Nurse Specialist / Practitioner to join our Community Paediatric Service in West Dorset. This is a highly rewarding role supporting children and young people with ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions, as well as their families.

You will work as an Independent Non-Medical Prescriber, managing your own caseload and contributing expert clinical input across the neurodevelopmental pathway. With structured clinical supervision, there will also be opportunities to further develop your skills in ASD and ADHD assessment and feedback, making this an ideal role for clinicians keen to expand their specialist practice.

This post is eligible for UKVI Skilled Worker visa sponsorship, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.

Your Key Responsibilities

Specialist Clinical Practice

  • Manage a defined caseload of children and young people with ADHD and related neurodevelopmental needs
  • Independently prescribe ADHD medication in line with agreed service protocols, NICE guidance and best-practice prescribing standards
  • Work collaboratively with Community Paediatricians to ensure safe, effective and family-centred care
  • Neurodevelopmental Pathway Contribution
  • Play a central role in the coordination and development of the local neurodevelopmental pathway
  • Participate in referral screening, grading and multidisciplinary triage
  • Support assessment, diagnosis and post-diagnostic planning for ASD and ADHD in line with national guidance
  • Work closely with clinical psychology colleagues to ensure children and young people are “waiting well” for formal assessments

Care Coordination & Multi-Agency Working

  • Act as a key liaison point for families, education, social care and other health professionals
  • Ensure timely communication and coordinated support across services
  • Provide high-quality written reports and clinical documentation

Professional Standards & Governance

  • Practice in accordance with the Competency Framework for All Prescribers
  • Maintain high standards of medicines management, safeguarding and record keeping
  • Contribute to service development, audit, policy and guideline improvement where appropriate

Who We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered Children’s Nurse or Allied Health Professional
  • Educated to BSc / MSc level (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
  • Independent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification (or willingness to undertake)
  • Active registration with the appropriate UK professional body

Essential Experience & Knowledge

  • Minimum 5 years post-registration experience, including practice at Band 6 level
  • Significant experience supporting children and young people with Autism and/or ADHD
  • Strong understanding of neurodevelopmental assessment pathways and treatment approaches
  • Experience working directly with families in emotionally complex situations

Desirable Experience

  • Experience supporting or advising on paediatric sleep difficulties
  • Involvement in developing policies, guidelines or managing clinical resources

Pre-Employment Checks

This role is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
