About the Role

The Department of Computer Science invites applications for a permanent faculty position in Systems and Networks at either Lecturer (Grade 8) or Associate Professor (Grade 9) level.

This role is suited to an academic with a strong research profile in computer systems and networking, combined with a passion for high-quality teaching and academic leadership. You will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education, develop an internationally visible research programme, and engage actively with the wider research and professional community.

The appointment includes a £20,000 per annum market supplement, recognising the strategic importance of this field.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Education

  • Deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in systems and networking-related subjects
  • Contribute to curriculum development under the direction of the Head of Department or Director of Studies
  • Supervise undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral students (PhD, MPhil, MRes, EngD)
  • Provide academic guidance, assessment, and feedback to students
  • Support the continuous enhancement of teaching quality and innovation

Research and Scholarship

  • Develop and sustain an internationally recognised research programme in computer systems and networks
  • Publish high-impact research outputs aligned with departmental and personal research objectives
  • Secure external research funding from national and international sources
  • Collaborate across disciplines within UCL and with external academic and industrial partners
  • Contribute to the Department’s research culture and strategic priorities

Academic Service and Engagement

  • Participate in departmental administration and academic leadership activities
  • Engage with the wider scholarly and professional community
  • Contribute to outreach, knowledge exchange, and public engagement where appropriate

Salary Information

  • Grade 8 (Lecturer): £54,931 – £62,903 per annum
  • Grade 9 (Associate Professor): £68,284 – £74,166 per annum
  • Plus £20,000 market supplement per annum
  • UCL salary scales are aligned with national frameworks
