About the Fellowship
This Trust Fellowship in Paediatric Urology offers an excellent opportunity for doctors seeking advanced clinical training within one of the world’s leading children’s hospitals. The post is specifically designed to support the development of clearly defined training competencies, agreed at the start of employment and reviewed throughout the fellowship.
As a postgraduate teaching hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) provides a rich academic environment, hosting medical students, specialty registrars, and senior clinical fellows from across the UK and internationally. Clinical training is central to this role, with strong emphasis on education, supervision, and professional development.
Clinical Training & Education
Training is fully embedded into the structure of this post and is protected throughout the working week. You will benefit from:
- Supervised clinical exposure through outpatient clinics, ward rounds, and theatre sessions
- A comprehensive induction programme for junior medical staff
At least 3 hours of protected teaching time per week, including:
- A weekly postgraduate teaching session
- A hospital-wide clinical case presentation
- A specialty-specific paediatric urology teaching hour
- A bleep-free teaching policy to ensure uninterrupted learning
- Opportunities to contribute to teaching medical students and trainees
- All fellows are expected to actively engage in teaching activities as part of their professional responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
As a Trust Fellow, you will:
- Deliver high-quality clinical care under consultant supervision
- Participate in outpatient clinics, ward care, and theatre activity
- Support multidisciplinary team working across paediatric urology services
- Contribute to audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives
- Take part in departmental and hospital-wide teaching programmes
- Work within professional boundaries and escalate appropriately to senior colleagues
- Uphold patient confidentiality, safeguarding, and data protection standards

Qualifications & Registration
Essential:
- Full GMC registration by the designated start date
- Recognised primary medical qualification
- Fellowship of the relevant College of Surgeons
- Evidence of English language proficiency (IELTS), if visa sponsorship is required
Desirable:
- Near completion of higher training in Paediatric Surgery or Urology
- Child protection training
- Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons
- Valid PALS / APLS / NALS certification
Experience & Knowledge
Essential:
- Registrar-level experience in paediatric surgery or adult urology
- Research and audit experience
- Teaching or presentation experience
- Sound understanding of paediatric urology principles
- Awareness of professional limitations and safe escalation
Knowledge of patient confidentiality and data protection

- Competence in all aspects of patient management
- Basic laparoscopic surgical training
