Job Description

 

Job Purpose

To contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by executing a range of teaching, assessment, and administrative activities, notably related to the Media, Culture, and Society MSc curriculum.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Help plan, organise, and implement PGT instruction in the media and cultural studies topic group (CH1).

2.Perform a variety of teaching and assessment activities geared for the delivery of big, worldwide programmes.

3.Complete a variety of course administration tasks within the timeframe specified, such as effective information transmission, marking, assessment, and timely constructive feedback.

4. Assist in the development of appropriate instructional materials, ensuring that the content and methods of delivery fit the learning objectives.

5.Assist in the efficient use of learning technologies to support and improve course delivery, course organisation, feedback and evaluation. This may entail blended and/or online provision, with the use of Moodle and other technologies.

6. Use knowledge of media, communications, and culture to tailor individual and small group seminar instruction to create an inclusive and evidence-based approach that promotes student engagement and learning outcome achievement.

7.Take part in the entire assessment process utilising a range of methods and techniques, including oral assessment, and provide students with effective, timely, and relevant feedback to help them learn.

8.Assist with the supervision of student projects, dissertations, and practical work, advising on skills, methods, and approaches to aid knowledge transfer, and responding appropriately to a wide range of learner support/needs.

9. Facilitate student engagement and pastoral assistance, contributing to a great student experience.

10. Participate in relevant continuing professional development programmes, including PgCap.

11. Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Head of School.

12. To help raise the University’s international visibility in accordance with the Strategic Plan, Inspiring People Changing the World.

 

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1.SCQF Level 10 [Honours degree] in a relevant field or related discipline, or equivalent.

A2.Expert conceptual and practical knowledge of media, culture, and society.

Desirable

B1. PHD in a relevant field or a related discipline.

B2. Understanding of media research methods and the ability to utilise them to create novel learning materials and instructional approaches.

 

Skills

Essential:

C1. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

C2.Demonstrated ability to operate both alone and collaboratively.

C3 Ability to accept and carry out collegiate obligations.

 

Desirable

D1.Proven capacity to collaborate with large foreign cohorts while maintaining inclusive classrooms.

 

Experience

Essential:

E1.1-2 years appropriate experience teaching in the social sciences.

E2. Relevant administrative experience [e.g., student support, course management, etc.].

 

Desirable:

F1.Experience integrating modern technologies into education.

F2. Experience supervising student dissertations and projects.

Terms & Conditions.

The annual salary for Grade 6 will be £32,332 – £36,024.

This position is full-time with a set duration of up to 15 months.
