JOB SUMMARY
Job Purpose
The Business Development Manager will contribute to the ongoing development of the Adam Smith Business School (ASBS) by managing collaborative external relationships and collaborations, as well as developing engagement opportunities for ASBS in accordance with the School and External Engagement strategies.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. Manage and deliver an effective business development operation to ensure a consistent stream of opportunities in learning, teaching, and research, such as student consultancy, guest speakers, projects, and knowledge sharing events for organisations outside of the School.
2. Manage new and existing external relationships, qualifying partner needs and, when appropriate, providing access to the expertise required for good academic and student outcomes. This could include anything from signposting services to brokering introductions to ongoing professional project assistance.
3. Provide competent and effective support to relevant academic staff in terms of External Engagement. Collaborate with academic and professional colleagues to discover and support potential external engagement in research, learning, and teaching, including initiatives that foster knowledge exchange and impact, as well as teaching portfolio development.
4. Contribute to the development of the ‘engagement offer’ in terms of research knowledge and professional development, ensuring that internal requirements are in line with external needs. Manage and improve systems, frameworks, and processes to ensure effective commercial development throughout the School.
5. Collaborate with the team to keep activities on track, review performance against goals, and ensure progress towards specified KPIs, assuring the implementation of the agreed-upon strategy in relation to the business development pipeline.
6. As needed, support the worldwide plan by optimising current ties and forming new collaborations (outside the UK).
7. Support the School’s aspirations in the executive education space, with a focus on discovering prospects for growth and revenue generation.
8. Maintain and optimise relevant records, processes, and systems to support the School’s external activities, as well as record and manage stakeholder data. Contribute to school-wide accreditation (now AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA).
9. Actively monitor national and international sector and policy developments that have an impact on University and School strategy. Identify and capitalise on fresh opportunities that align with the agreed-upon plan.
10. Coordinate the work of the external engagement team with a broader spectrum of colleagues from the College and University. Support the Student Recruitment and External Engagement Manager in managing the School’s external engagement budget correctly.
11. Line management for the Business Coordinator position.
12. Fill in for the Student Recruitment and External Engagement Manager as a member of the School Professional Service Leadership Team as needed. Attend meetings and other duties as assigned by senior personnel. Participate in committees and groups that help shape strategic direction, policies, and practices.

Essential
A1 A degree (or similar work experience) in a relevant discipline/business sector, along with proof of ongoing professional development in an area relevant to the role.
Desirable
B1 Understanding of the relevant strategic areas for the University of Glasgow, including the College of Social Sciences and the Adam Smith Business School.
B2 Advanced degree or professional certificate in a related field.
B3 Knowledge and experience in the executive education market.

Essential
E1 Experience working in a business development job with the aforementioned qualifications, or significant vocational and relevant experience exhibiting management aptitude and expertise in an appropriate professional/specialist area.
E2 Experience working together with a variety of sectors, including large enterprises, professional organisations, the public sector, SMEs, and the third sector.
E3 Successful experience in establishing networks, collaborations, and professional ties.
E4 Demonstrated ability to work independently, set priorities, and multitask while meeting deadlines.
Desirable
F1 experience handling budgets.
Terms & Conditions.
The annual salary for Grade 7 will range between £39,347 and £44,263.
This position is full-time (35 hours per week) and open-ended (permanent).
