JOB SUMMARY

 

We are seeking experienced EAP teachers to join our team for the summer Pre-sessional English (PSE) Programme, which will be taught both face-to-face and online at the University of Reading campus.

The International Study and Language Institute (ISLI) has been one of the University’s fifteen academic Schools since 2013, and it is well-known for its expertise in English language teaching and evaluation. Our PSE Programme is approved by BALEAP, the global conference for EAP practitioners, and uses both a genre and an integrated approach to building academic language abilities. We provide a competitive teaching package:

Primary roles and responsibilities.

  • Attend a three-day teacher induction to understand the context, concepts, content, and procedures of the programme.
  • Teach EAP to overseas students so that they have the academic English language abilities required for their degree destination.
  • Teach two sets of students (face-to-face and online) to meet the school’s operational requirements.
  • Teach utilising the provided materials to ensure that the desired learning outcomes are met adequately.
  • Keep accurate records of students’ attendance and involvement to ensure that University and UKVI compliance is met.
  • Provide tutorials to students for academic support.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to be informed on major parts of the project.
  • Liaise with staff members through suitable communication platforms to address any concerns in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Attend standardised training sessions for formative and summative assessments to ensure that quality assurance requirements are consistently enforced.
  • Apply marking criteria and provide relevant feedback on written and spoken coursework to ensure students understand their performance and opportunities for development.
  • Assist in the administration and marking of exit tests to further measure students’ language proficiency.
  • Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) opportunities, including being observed once, to ensure that your own teaching practice is informed by research and reflection.
  • Provide end-of-programme feedback to help evaluate the programme.

Dates

The following dates are inclusive of the teacher induction:

PSE F (10 weeks): Wednesday, June 26 to Friday, September 6, 2024, inclusive.

Pay

$ 38,205 per year pro rata.

Teachers are generally paid on the final working day of each month. If teachers join after the payment deadline, they will be paid the next month.
