Job Description

Precision Engineering Technician (Fixed-Term)
School of Engineering, University of Liverpool

The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a skilled Technician to support ongoing research projects and contribute to the development of advanced experimental facilities.

We are looking for someone with a strong technical background—ideally, you will have completed a recognised apprenticeship in Toolmaking or Precision Machining and hold a BTEC Higher National Certificate or equivalent. A deep understanding of machining techniques using both conventional and CNC workshop/toolroom machinery is essential, along with proven experience in CNC programming. Experience with modern CAM off-line programming will be considered a strong advantage.

The successful candidate will need to work independently, using their expertise to produce complex components from a wide range of materials. The role also includes the design and manufacture of bespoke jigs and fixtures, supporting the build and assembly of major research equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manufacturing and assembling large-scale research equipment.
  • Supporting the commissioning and ongoing development of a new test facility.
  • Assisting in the day-to-day operation of the test system.

This is a fixed-term position available until 30 June 2027.
